Among the many prized accomplishments many of us aspire is to finish our studies. After all, many of us have been told that a Bachelor’s degree is our golden ticket in landing a decent, well-paying job and ultimately, living a comfortable life. That may be true, years ago, when employment especially in the city was a boom. But with the outstanding impact of the global financial crisis, many employees were laid off and production was cut down almost in half, as a result of business that waned.
Nowadays, everybody can acknowledge how challenging this economic situation is. Recent foreclosure of many foreign-based companies in the Philippines has left thousands of employees jobless and their sources of income indeterminate. Many of these opted to find work elsewhere, to no avail. Further, many people are skeptical that employment alone cannot possibly support a decent living during these times of crises. So what’s in store for new graduates?
New graduates, upon finishing a degree may be shocked that only a considerable number of opportunities are lining in front of them. As a result, competition is highly likely among thousands of applicants eyeing for a single job opening. Fresh graduates and employees alike are now under pressure to come up with ways to get a job or find other sources to augment their income.
The job is there for the taking
Any kind of profession is there for the taking. Hard work, persistence, and determination are key traits in convincing employers that you are the perfect person for the job. In today’s trying times, hiring individuals will look out for people with combined skills and talent, with drive to succeed, and commitment to beat. You should make that impression and prove to them that they made the right choice.
Admittedly, working for someone else cannot, in any way, determine financial freedom. “If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten,” says John Maxwell, an international motivator, author, and leadership expert. Employment benefits may provide now, but it cannot stand by its course years from now. “If you want to be successful, and then be governed by your finest thoughts, your highest enthusiasm, your greatest optimism, and you’re most triumphant experiences,”
